Framing & Care

Every original is sold unframed, unless otherwise stated on its page. Framing is optional, and if you’d like a hand choosing, I’m happy to help.

Works on paper
Some works on paper are available framed and ready to hang, and this is noted on the piece. For unframed works, I can arrange framing with a white mat and UV-protective glass, quoted on request. Framing is made to order in San Francisco, so please allow an extra 2–3 weeks. Framing also affects the shipping cost.

If you’d prefer to frame locally, this is what I recommend for a 9×12 in (22.9×30.5 cm) work:

  • A 14×18 in (35.6×45.7 cm) frame with the mat window cut to 8¾×11¾ in (22.2×29.8 cm), so the mat just covers the paper’s edges

  • An acid-free (archival) mat and backing

  • UV-protective glass or acrylic

  • The paper hinged at the top with archival tape, not glued down

For other sizes, the same principles apply. Just ask and I’ll send the measurements.

Works on canvas
Each canvas’s page states whether it is stretched or unstretched.

  • Unstretched canvas: painted on raw, unprimed canvas. The raw edges are part of the work, so I recommend showing them rather than stretching. My preferred presentation is float-mounted on archival board in a slim box frame, without glass. Ask your framer for a reversible mount (stitched or hinged rather than glued), so the canvas can be remounted later.

  • Stretched canvas: ready to hang as it is. You can also add a floater frame for a finished edge, which your local framer can advise on.

Limited edition prints
8×10 in (20.3×25.4 cm) on Hahnemühle Photo Rag. They fit a standard 11×14 in (27.9×35.6 cm) frame with a mat opening of 7½×9½ in (19.1×24.1 cm).

Care

  • Hang away from direct sunlight, heat and damp rooms like bathrooms.

  • Handle with clean, dry hands and hold the work by its edges. Raw canvas marks easily.

  • Dust the frame and glass with a soft, dry cloth. Never use water or cleaning products on the artwork.

  • If a canvas arrives rolled, unroll it slowly on a clean, flat surface and let it relax for a day before framing.
